Hello collective wisdom,

One of my faculty has posed the following question :
I was wondering if you know of any good text/article that talks about the emergence of color in (optical) media.

I'm looking for writing that makes the transition from black and white (monochromatic) to color come alive. I would be interested in finding names such as James Clerk Maxwell...Sergey Prokudin-Gorskii or something similar.

Fredrich Kittler has few pages in Optical Media but it's not that interesting. I would love to find something on theories of color and emergence of color in media in a way Jonathan Crary, Barbara Stafford, or Kaja Silverman might write about related areas.
So far nothing I've found quite fits the bill. If you are aware of such a reading please respond to me off-list!

Many thanks,
Sarah
