Greetings from the Getty Vocabulary Program. Below are examples of records added to the Getty vocabularies last quarter, October-December 2019. See the fuller list of new terms and names here:

The Getty vocabularies grow through contributions from the expert user community. To see the hundreds or thousands of records edited each month, including new translations and bulk loads, see Getty web services: http://www.getty.edu/research/tools/vocabularies/vocab_web_services.pdf .

Many contributions to the Getty Vocabularies from several contributors were added last quarter, as either new records or additions to existing records. Among the new contributors are the Snite Museum of Art at Notre Dame University, Indiana. Among the larger data sets are the following: the first pass at processing the 15,000 records in the English/French dataset for AAT from CHIN / RCIP (Canadian Heritage Information Network / Réseau canadien d’information sur le patrimoine (Gatineau, Quebec, Canada)) and AASLH (American Association for State and Local History (Nashville, Tennessee)), which was completed; more specific hierarchical placement will follow over time. The load of over 15,000 records from NMWA (National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, DC)) was processed and published. A load of 10,000 terms translated in Chinese were added. We have begun working on the processing of the contribution for ULAN from the Belvedere (Österreichische Galerie Belvedere (Vienna, Austria)). A load from the BWR (Built Works Registry) for CONA has been received, and is currently pending processing.

To help pre-process some of these data loads, the Getty Vocabulary Program has used the OpenRefine Reconciliation Service using the Getty Vocabularies. http://www.getty.edu/research/tools/vocabularies/obtain/openrefine.html We hope that in time contributors will also use this service to help preprocess their own contributed data. We will follow up with workshops and tutorials soon.

In other work, the Vocabulary Program is preparing for a periodic International Terminology Working Group (ITWG) meeting, scheduled to take place at the Getty Center in February 2020. Presentations from the meeting will be posted on this site.

Look out for a new style on the training materials and other pages on our site. New branding of the Getty site is underway, and other materials must also eventually comply with the new Getty branding style.
