Greetings ARLIS/NA members! This is the second Vice President’s message highlighting the projects, events, and activities of the ARLIS/NA divisions, sections, and special interest groups. Joining one of these groups is a great way to get involved in ARLIS/NA, and they offer a range of opportunities for participation (for example, the Fashion, Textile & Costume Librarians SIG is looking for a vice-moderator).

·         The Academic Division is planning to use the group’s listserv to generate discussion around the ARLIS/NA 2020 conference theme—Preserve, Enhance, Reimagine—in the lead-up to the April conference in St. Louis. In addition to building up interest before the conference, the listserv discussion is also intended to offer those division members who won’t be attending the conference the chance to network and share information. Go to https://www.lists.utah.edu/wws/info/arlis-ald if you are interested in subscribing to the Academic Library Division’s listserv and participating in the discussion.

·         The Exhibitions SIG has been hosting Zoom meet-ups to discuss different topics related to planning, designing, and installing library exhibits. View the recordings on the first two meet-ups—Exhibition Policy and  Exhibit Mechanics and Use of Tablets. Additionally, the SIG is looking for a guest moderator for their upcoming virtual book club, which will start in February and run through March. Watch ARLIS-l for details on the book club and information on future meet-ups.

·         The Teaching SIG recently put out a call for positive teaching experiences in 2019. If you’re interested in contributing, send in a submission using this link by January 15, and look for the SIG’s blog post on positive teaching experiences later in the new year.

·         The Collection Development SIG hosted a couple of call-in meetings this year on topics familiar to many librarians. One discussion was on gifts, and the other focused on eBook platforms in November. You can read more about the gifts discussion on the SIG’s blog and watch the blog for a recap of the e-books discussion soon.

If you are interested in joining one of these groups or another division, section, or SIG, be sure to check the appropriate box on your membership renewal form and the group’s moderator/coordinator will be in touch. https://arlisna.org/membership/join-arlisna

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have questions or would like to suggest a project to include in the next Vice President’s message.

Best,

Amy

Correction:

In my first message I described the upcoming annual conference workshop “Find Yourself: Developing a Professional Identity in Art Librarianship” as a joint project of the LGBTQ and Critical Librarianship SIGs. In fact, the 2019 conference session the workshop is based on was a joint project, but it is the LGBTQ SIG that is taking the lead on the workshop for the 2020 conference.
