The Department of Image Collections of the National Gallery of Art Library recently acquired the only surviving inventory book of the art dealer Sam Salz. It was donated by Marc Salz (his son) and his family to the Library so that it could join the Salz photographic archive that was acquired in 1982. The other inventory books were reported lost in a flood. This volume, covering the dates 1940-1944, will be of particular interest to provenance researchers.  A digitized copy has been added to the collection summary record and is viewable online at

For example, page 132 lists the artworks that Salz brought with him from Germany. We hope that this summary record and the digitized inventory book will be of interest.
