DEPARTMENT: University Libraries
REPORTS TO: Director for Library Operations

SUMMARY: The Archivist and Digital Collections Curator organizes and preserves materials that tell the story of the University of the Arts. They oversee, plan, and conduct development, maintenance, and implementation of procedures for archival processing and organization of the University Archives, including digital projects. They develop and implement policies and procedures for the organization and preservation of the intellectual and artistic output of the University, through the UArts Digital Collections institutional repository.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Appraises, acquires, accessions, describes, arranges, surveys, and preserves permanent records in the University Archives to accepted archival standards.

·         Keeps Director for Library Services informed of priorities for inventory and processing.

·         Creates finding aids for archival collections.

·         Ensures compliance with the university’s Records Retention Policy.

·         Records statistics and maintains monthly statistical reports.

·         Appraises, acquires, describes, organizes, and preserves items in the UArts Digital Collections to accepted digital stewardship standards.

·         Collaborates with academic and administrative departments to identify materials for preservation and to aid departments’ internal organization efforts.

·         Keeps Director for Library Operations informed of priorities for digitization and processing.

·         Serves on the Digital Collections Group (DCG) library committee

·         Creates online exhibits of institutional repository and digitized archival materials.

·         Records statistics and maintains monthly statistical reports.

·         Answers UArts history and archival questions; adds archival material to University Libraries social media accounts.

·         Assists academic and administrative departments in identifying and using archival and institutional repository material.

·         Participates in the Libraries’ instructional program.

·         Provides reference assistance.

·         Provides coverage of the circulation desk as needed or at regularly scheduled shifts.

·         Provides instruction and assistance in the use of collections and equipment.

·         Supervises student assistants doing data entry and processing.

Education & Experience:

·         ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science. Coursework or equivalent training in archives management.

·         At least one year of experience in organizing and describing archival records and one year of experience in digital stewardship.

·         Knowledge of visual or performing arts gained through performance or study is preferred.

·         Knowledge of standards and best practices in archives management and digital stewardship is required.

·         Experience creating and editing records in archival content management and institutional repository systems is required.

·         Experience creating online exhibits or other web-based presentation of materials is preferred.

·         Knowledge of and experience in processing of archival materials and creation of finding aids is required.

·         Ability to bend and repeatedly reach for and lift boxes or volumes weighing up to 40 lbs is required.

·         Ability to work effectively, independently, and collaboratively is required.

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking, are required.
