The Liaison Librarian serves as the primary liaison to selected academic and non-academic departments. The Liaison Librarian works in a team environment within the Educational, Research, and Access department to provide collaborative leadership in the areas of: access to information, collection development, library instruction and information literacy, research support, and outreach services.
Reports to: College Librarian and Managing Director
FLSA status: Exempt
Salary grade: 7
Qualifications
· MS/MLS/MLIS from an American Library Association accredited program
· BA/BFA/BS in art, art history, or design
· Knowledge of art and design library and information resources
· Knowledge of teaching and learning practices
· Ability to independently plan and deliver instructional sessions
· Ability to develop innovative outreach programs and services
· Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
· Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment to develop and complete projects
· Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities
· Strong commitment to service and willingness to develop new competencies through professional development
· A commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity through collections, instruction, and outreach
Preferred Qualifications
· Knowledge of contemporary fine art and illustration
· Familiarity with art and design special collections, including zines
· Experience planning and coordinating programs, workshops, pop-up libraries, and displays
· Experience embedding information literacy into curriculum
· Experience with library assessment, including developing student-learning outcomes
· Familiarity with instructional design software, such as Camtasia
· Knowledge of Dewey Decimal and LC subject headings
· Ability to work in a fast-paced library environment
· Proficiency in a second language (other than English)
Essential Functions
Collection Development — 25%
· Assess, develop, and manage print and electronic collections in a team environment
· Collaborate with assigned academic departments, Collections Management, College Archives, and Library Systems and Digital Collections to assess, develop, and preserve all print, media, and digital collections
· Monitor book and media budgets for assigned academic departments in order to select necessary books and media
· Work with assigned academic departments and keep abreast of forthcoming curricular changes in order to curate the Library’s collections
Research Services — 25%
· Provide individualized reference/research assistance to students, faculty, and staff by responding to in-person, telephone, and electronic inquiries (may include some nights and weekends)
· Assess and develop research guides in support of teaching and research for selected academic and non-academic departments
Instruction, Information Literacy, and Student Learning Assessment — 25%
· Provide course-related library instruction to teach information literacy skills (may include some nights and weekends)
· Develop instruction workshops, orientations, and/or tours for targeted audiences (may include some nights and weekends)
· In consultation with faculty, develop library assignments to teach information literacy
Outreach Services — 20%
· Cultivate relationships with assigned departments (may include some nights and weekends)
· As the Outreach Coordinator, responsible for leading departmental conversations related to outreach
· Coordinate the Library’s role in student orientations with CSE
Non-Essential Job Functions — 5%
· Participate in Library and College committees
· Maintain memberships and active involvement in applicable professional organizations
