Job Description:
The Subject Librarian for Art, Art History, Music and Romance Languages serves as the liaison for these academic departments. The incumbent is a member of a dynamic team pioneering the development of innovative library resources and services for a diverse constituency
of students, faculty, researchers and the community. The position works creatively and collaboratively to develop unique collections, provide instructional services, and play an active role in the planning and decision-making process of the Libraries through
meetings, special projects and programs supporting a user-centered approach to services. The incumbent will also work on special projects related to collection development and management.
The position reports to the Head of Collection Development. Tenure-track librarians at Binghamton University are members of the faculty and are expected
to contribute significantly to the profession.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Serve as the library liaison for the Art, Art History, Music and Romance Languages departments.
· Assess, develop and manage the collections, subject web pages and electronic resources in support of teaching and research in assigned subject areas.
· Provide individual research consultations; and provide and promote specialized research and instruction services to students and faculty working in assigned subject areas.
· Provide in-person and virtual reference service at library service points.
· Serve as a liaison for the Visual Resources Center, University Art Museum and the University's Transdisciplinary Area of Excellence (TAE) Material and Visual Worlds
· Work with the Special Collections Department to develop and preserve print and digital visual arts and music special collections
· Participate in library and university committees
· Maintain a current knowledge and emerging trends in the field as they relate to reference, instruction and collection services.
· Pursue scholarly growth through participation in professional library and bibliographic organizations, research, presentations, and publication
Requirements:
Required:
· ALA-accredited Master's degree in library and information science (or equivalent by time of appointment)
· Bachelor's degree in Art, Art History, Music, a Romance Language, a related field or previous experience in one of these fields.
· Proficiency in French, Italian, or Spanish
· Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and as a team member in developing services and resources
· Excellent oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills
· Strong commitment to service and professional development
Preferred:
· Master's degree in Art, Art History, Music, Romance Languages or related field
· Experience working with digital resources and in the digital humanities
· Experience working in an academic library
· Experience in reference, instruction, or collection development in assigned subject areas
