Dear ARLIS/NA members,
Please consider applying to serve on the International Relations Committee!
What we do
The International Relations Committee, comprised of six members, including chair, support the Society’s strong commitment to international dialogue and collaboration by pursuing relationships with art information
professionals and institutions outside of North America. This collaborative effort supports the Society as the leading North American organization in the arts information field, while fostering the free exchange of ideas with international colleagues. The
IRC encourages affiliation with compatible professional associations and promotes international engagement around issues of concern to the art information community. The IRC also works to establish greater collaboration within North America, including the
Society’s members in Canada, Mexico and the United States, to support the Society's role in representing art information professionals across the continent. The IRC actively encourages within the Society the values of inclusiveness, collaboration, social and
intellectual diversity, and openness to international perspectives. As such, the committee organizes annual study tours to international art and architecture libraries and archives in collaboration with host art information professionals. The study tours provide
opportunities to develop an intimate familiarity with sites, collections, and dialogue with hosts through symposia and other venues. In addition, the IRC facilitates ARLIS/NA hosted study tours, encourages an affiliation with compatible professional associations,
and active engagement at annual ARLIS/NA conferences from international art information professionals through meetings and sessions.
What we are looking for in a member
In addition to the annual conference meeting, the IRC meets virtually on a quarterly basis throughout the year. The Committee seeks members with a commitment to advancing the Society’s partnerships in the
global sphere through the planning of study tours, communication and sharing of information between ARLIS/NA and global art information professionals concerning collections, professional practice, inclusion, and diversity. Members at all levels of experience
from recent graduates and early career forward are encouraged to apply!
