I am beyond grateful to all who responded to my original question (weeks ago, already!) about displaying art in academic libraries. There are multiple models and modes of practice, from librarians managing temporary student-art displays to curating multiple venues (common at art colleges) to managing an entire university's art collection. In between, there are a number of university libraries with their own permanent art collections, including artworks incorporated into the structures themselves, and some that program and host traveling art displays.. I have retreated to considering & collecting resources for my first charge: accommodations (read: hardware) & policies to support display of student art from the university population only, with an eye toward two or three exhibits per year. Not a grand plan, but one that satisfies "art coordinator" for my dean and for student government, which is extra-keen on this. Not keen to the point of actually assisting or contributing, but hey. For those interested in the management of university-level permanent collections, I can share what resources I found-just email me off-list. For my limited purposes, however, here's what I've found most useful: This article: Student Art in the Library Juried Exhibition Program<https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/abs/10.1086/adx.26.1.27949455> Jennifer Benedetto Beals Art Documentation: Journal of the Art Libraries Society of North America 2007 26:1, 56-58 And these support documents and documents from various universities, available online: Atlanta University Center Robert W. Dear colleagues, Suddenly I am the Art Coordinator for the main library here at Clemson. As I begin to pull that program and a team together, I would very much appreciate hearing from those of you who have art displayed in your main libraries: policy or procedure documents, most especially. What are the art sources you tap? Who vets artworks? What security/insurance provisions did your organization think through (and reject :)). Many thanks, Kathy Kathy Edwards Associate Librarian Research, Instruction & Collection Development Emery A.
