Thanks to those who have responded to the announcement about our new online book club and joined the Facebook page!

We have received inquiries from some of you about alternative platform to Facebook. To make the experience as inclusive and accessible as possible, we will also use the Exhibitions SIG listserv for the book discussion. We will share some discussion highlight from Facebook on the listserv and vice versa to keep the conversation going.

Just a reminder: If you are interested in joining the Exhibitions SIG, email to [log in to unmask] and include "subscribe exhibitions_sig" in the text. No subject line is necessary.

RLIS/NA Exhibitions SIG is starting an online Book Club. The goal is to engage members and individuals who are interested in exhibitions for libraries, archives, museums, or other cultural institutions in dialogues about various topics relating to exhibitions. On behalf of the the SIG, I would like to invite you to join this exciting adventure with us.

Here’s how it will work:
  • The first book we are going to discuss is Curatorial Activism: Towards an Ethics of Curating by Maura Reilly (2018). (See a recent review on ARLIS/NA Reviews page)
  • The book club will run for 5 weeks from September 5 - October 10, 2019
  • It will take place on ARLIS/NA Exhibitions SIG Facebook public group page
  • New guiding questions will be posted every Thursday
  • The book club is asynchronous - anyone who joins the Facebook group can join the discussions at any point during the 5 week run. There is no time limit.
  • Every participants will follow the ground rules (which will be posted on the Facebook page before the book club starts)
As this is a new project for the SIG, it might be a bit touch and go as we begin. Our hope is that after we get the ball rolling, we can start more discussions on different publications and/or websites relating to exhibitions in the book club.

We also want to know what you want to read. If you have any suggestions, please share on our Facebook page or email me.

With Regards,

Carol Ng-He
Co-coordinator, Exhibitions SIG
