Thank you to all who wrote with their thoughts! We believe it's likely to be the Biblical story of Dinah, from Genesis 34, though some compelling arguments were also made for various Greco-Roman figures & gods/goddesses.

Hello all,

A museum colleague and I are researching what we believe to be a 19th century tapestry, potentially done by a local person, that's we currently hold in our campus museum. We're at a bit of a dead end and I'd love any thoughts y'all might have about the subject matter or suggestions for resources on tapestries, particularly those made by amateurs/home craftspeople - we've done broad searches in several major art historical databases, but are having a hard time finding more information, since we're stuck with figuring out the subject matter. It's not ringing any bells regarding Biblical stories, and it appears to be an odd scene.

Here's an image of it, plus a link to it in my Drive, if the attachment doesn't go through.

Thanks all,
Anna
