Having established the first large-scale shadow art museum nationwide in 2003, Shadow Art Museum (incorporated into Folk Art Museum in 2015), China Academy of Art further made its effort on the internet promotion of Shadow Play and founded Digital Museum of Shadow in 2017. Now, the museum has collected 48 thousand of the images of Shadow figures, recorded more than 700 videos of typical Shadow Play around the country. Besides the images and videos, the museum also collects more than 100 documentations of the voices in Shadow Play, including the segments from famous Shadow artists, Gao Rongjie, Qi Huai, Li Xiu and etc. As for the academic purpose, a great amount of research papers, videos of oral history, information regarding to the researchers and artists are provided. Now the location of artists and institutes of Shadow Play through the "Academic Map" supported by Zhejiang University. Moreover, the museum possesses various scripts of Shadow Play and performances of gang and drum at the beginning of the play, and makes diverse derivatives of Shadow, like the Shadow wallpapers of computers and cell phones, Shadow animations, postage stamps of Shadow and emojis of Shadow.

The Digital Museum of Shadow displays the shadow puppets and Shadow Play as cultural heritage of materials and performing arts under the help of digitalization of the management, collection and preservation. Combining the academic research with science popularization, Digital Museum of Shadow will gradually develop as a more mature platform for the regeneration, re-understanding, and development of traditional opera, in which way people from all over the world will feel and sense the vitally of the traditional culture of China.
