Hi Everyone,
I'd like to chime in and say the SLC Conference I think was the best ARLIS/NA conference I've been to yet. I admit I went to Utah with a lot of assumptions about the state, and complaining about having to go to "Mormonland".
Utah, after Iceland, I think is the most beautiful place on the planet I've had a chance to visit. Visiting Spiral Getty and the Golden Spike was a once in a lifetime experience that I'm still processing. I was pleasantly surprised at the food scene In SLC, and all the bourbon and whiskey! I was also shocked to discover how progressive and diverse SLC is, and that is the "gayest" city in America in terms of the per capita population of LGBTQ+ folks. On the Friday, myself and a couple of other other ARLIS/NA attendees visited the incredible Utah Pride Centre, ate at an Ethiopian restaurant, and went to a couple of queer bars (SLC has several, including a couple large dance clubs) the second of which was nearly 50% POC. Again, I did not expect any of this since I had embarrassingly bought into so many of the stereotypes about Utah.
The programming at this years conference was also excellent, in that there were so many session focusing on critical librarianship, and issues pertinent to the profession at large, such as indigenization, representing and highlighting marginalized groups, diversity, et cetera, along with all the sessions about instruction, resources, outreach I attend to help me with the service aspects of my job. I feel especially blessed to have been invited to speak at the Diversity Forum, and I've never felt so accepted as I did on that stage sharing my story. Thanks you to everyone on the conference planning team, The Diversity Committee, the Critical Librarianship SIG, and all the moderators and presenters for all your hard work.
See you all next year in St. Louis (I've changed my mind, and will 100% be attending in 2020)!

I respectfully acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional territory
of ýthe Neutral, Anishnaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. The University of Waterloo is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River.
I will also chime in and agree it was one of the best conferences I, too, have enjoyed. The facilities, sessions, excursions, and workshops were all exceptional. I gained so much knowledge, new ideas, and enjoyed seeing so many colleagues I've gotten to know over these years, as well as meeting so many new ones.
I enjoyed all of the keynote speakers and especially appreciated the talk by Executive Director, Sarah George, prior to us visiting the Natural History Museum of Utah. That allowed me to enjoy and understand that facility even more.
As someone who has helped organize a conference somewhat recently, I know how much work it is. Everything seemed to have gone off without a hitch. (I hope that's really how it went.)
Thank you Salt Lake City CPAC!!
