Director of Libraries, College for Creative Studies- Detroit, MI


Position Description
Reporting to the Provost, the Director of Libraries manages all aspects of library operations and assumes a leadership role in determining library policy, and long-range library planning. The Director is a member of the Provost’s Academic Support Group

Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions

·         Supervise acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, visual resources, library use, and information literacy;

·         Develop and administer library functions, programs, processes, marketing, and instructional services;

·         Develop, train, and supervise all full-time and part-time library staff and student assistants;

·         Develop and manage library budget, including negotiating vendor agreements;

·         Monitor, oversee and maintain the Integrated Library System and Libguides;

·         Provide research and assessment data, including statistics and user surveys, to evaluate library services and instructional technologies;

·         Serve as ex-officio to the Library Committee;

·         Perform additional duties as assigned by the Provost


Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications

·         Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution;

·         Five years experience in an academic library or learning resources center, with two years in a supervisory capacity;

·         Knowledge of library automation, cataloging, collection development, reference, information technology, and library architecture and design;

·         Background in art or design preferred;

·         Strong interpersonal, communication, and supervisory skills;

·         Knowledge of and experience with library automation (KOHA) and information technology, including on-line databases;

·         Ability to work in collaboration with campus technology services; environment; and

·         Willingness to work in an academic environment.
