Hello -
Those in the Philadelphia area are invited to join the Philadelphia Center
for the Book Members & Friends Meeting (open to all) this evening,
Thursday, April 25, 6-8pm, at Fisher Fine Arts Library & Common Press at
the University of Pennsylvania.
This meeting is the launch for a call for Book Artist in Residence at
Fisher Fine Arts & Common Press.
*ARTIST IN RESIDENCE:*
The selected artist will be asked to create an edition of 10 or more bound
artist books that incorporate letterpress printing and take inspiration
from Fisher Fine Arts Library, with five copies becoming part of the
archives and collections of Philadelphia Center for the Book, Common Press,
Fisher Fine Arts Library, Kislak Center for Special Collections at
University of Pennsylvania Libraries, and the Print and Picture Collection
at the Free Library of Philadelphia. An honorarium of $1000 will go to the
artist towards covering expenses. *Applications are due May 24, 2019*. For

*A TOUR OF THE COLLECTIONS:*
*Please join us this Thursday, April 25, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Fisher
Fine Arts Library* to explore the breadth of the collections, from
historical rare books about landscape architecture to contemporary
art books to a Materials Library and a letterpress studio, Common Press.
Come to be inspired. (Attendance is strongly encouraged for potential
Artist-in-Residence applicants.)
The Fisher Fine Arts Library supports study, teaching and research in
contemporary and historical aspects of art, architecture, city and regional
planning, historic preservation, landscape architecture, studio art, and
urban design. Text and image collections, in analog and digital form, have
a global reach and concentrate on the arts of the western experience,
Islam, South Asia and East Asia, from prehistory to the present.
