Dear ARLIS/NA Colleagues,
NDSR-Art presents the webinar "Strategies for Conserving Time-Based Media: An overview of the Art Institute of Chicago's TBM Initiative", which will take place on May 8th, 2019 at 12pm CST.

In this webinar session, attendees will learn about some of the activities to date in the Time-Based Media (TBM) Initiative at the Art Institute of Chicago. Details about the development of the TBM Working Group, a survey on TBM artworks and related collection management practices, and updates to procedures and documentation approaches will be shared.

Supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the TBM Initiative at the Art Institute is, in part, an interdepartmental undertaking to develop new procedures and practices towards the goal of enhancing discussion around TBM art in the collection and related conservation activities. Another aim of the initiative is the creation of a local and regional coalition to foster dialogue and collaboration for TBM stewardship in the midwestern U.S. Now named the Midwest Media Arts Consortium, the group includes nearly twenty institutions which collect and/or exhibit TBM artwork.

Presenter: Kristin MacDonough, Grainger Fellow in Time-Based Media Conservation

Currently at the Art Institute of Chicago, Kristin previously worked as the Digitization Specialist at the Video Data Bank, and is a 2013 graduate of the Moving Image Archiving and Preservation program at New York University.
