Hi Karen,
Don’t’ forget the Wellcome Images:
https://wellcomeimages.org/ (you’ll get more results under ‘smoking’ than under ‘cigarettes’).
Also:
·
Europeana (https://www.europeana.eu)
·
The Library of Congress (http://www.loc.gov/pictures/
·
The NYPL Digital Collections (https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/).
·
You can search through the 1920-1940 issues of the French edition of Vogue at:
https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/cb343833568/date.r=vogue.langEN.
I list some additional historical fashion magazines available online at
http://guides.library.ucla.edu/c.php?g=180359&p=1187204 but my links to the titles hosted at
http://patrimoine.editionsjalou.com are broken (will have to troubleshoot tomorrow).
And I list additional image sources at
http://guides.library.ucla.edu/images.
Best wishes,

Subject: [ARLIS-L] French cigarette advertisements
Hello All,
I have a student who wants to study French cigarette advertisements from the late 19th to early 20th century. I had hoped I could direct her to some popular magazines in our collection but we don't seem to have much at the time. I'm looking
for online sources of French magazine or advertising archives.
She's particularly interested in their relationship to body image, so I thought fashion magazines might be useful.
So far I've found some on Google Images and in the Gallica catalog. Can anyone recommend any other sources?
thank you,
Karen Bouchard
