Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the ARLIS/NA NE Board, we invite applications for the
2018 Wolfgang
Freitag Professional Development Award.

*PURPOSE:* To aid and encourage the professional development of chapter
members and to ensure the vibrant future of our profession. It is intended
to support a broad range of professional endeavors including workplace
initiatives and projects, continuing education, original research into
topics that pertain to art librarianship, and other projects.

This award can help you:

   - Fund a new or continuing initiative (e.g. a digitization project,
   creating an art exhibition space, targeted collection development,
   purchasing educational technology)
   - Attend professional conferences beyond ARLIS/NA (e.g. ALA, VRA, ACRL,
   ASIS&T)
   - Attend professional training programs (e.g. SEI, ACRL Immersion,
   continuing education courses)
   - Cover travel expenses, materials, software, and other costs associated
   with research intended for publication or presentation

*QUALIFICATIONS:* Applicants must be a full or associate member of the
ARLIS/NA New England Chapter. Join or renew your membership here

The applicant cannot have received full funding from other sources for the
same project or objective.

*AWARD: $1,000* in award funding will be distributed to one applicant
during the calendar year. Chapter members have generously contributed to
the Freitag Award fund over the years and donations are always welcome.

*APPLICATION PROCEDURE*:
To be considered for this award, applicants should submit a proposal that
includes:

   - A detailed account, comprising at least 250 and no more than 500
   words, of what the award will help you accomplish and how it will
   contribute to the field of art librarianship
   - A statement describing the financial need of the project or
   initiative, and a budget detailing a total cost breakdown (e.g. travel and
   lodging expenses, conference registration fees, workshop fees, course
   tuition, materials costs, details of additional funding from other sources,
   etc.)

*DEADLINE:* Friday December 14, 2018. Application materials in PDF format

*ABOUT:* The Wolfgang M. Freitag Professional Development Award, named in
honor of the chapter’s founding member, was instituted in 1992. Dr. Freitag
served as Chief Librarian of the Harvard College Fine Arts Library at the
Fogg Art Museum from 1964 to 1991, and as lecturer and senior lecturer in
bibliography and art historiography at Harvard from 1967 to 1991. A charter
member of ARLIS/NA, he was elected president of the organization in 1980
and received its Distinguished Service award in 1990. Wolfgang Freitag
exemplified the highest standards of the profession and served as an
inspiration to us all.
