First, with the caveat that I am NOT in any way, shape, or form deeply knowledgeable in this area, as I understand your question you might also want to look at Chinese manuals that were translated into Japanese at some
point.
To that end you might want to look at the following, as translated into English.
And I believe there was an article or two in Andon by Scott Johnson that might be of interest. Sadly I do not have the cites.
