Edmund Charles Tarbell (1862-1938) was a painter and teacher in Boston, Mass. and New Hampshire. Born in West Groton, Mass., Tarbell studied at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston School, and the Académie Julian and taught at MFA, Boston School from 1889-1913. He was a member of the group, Ten American Painters and was considered a leader of the Boston Impressionists.

John Button (1929-1982) was an American artist well known for his paintings of city-scapes and associated with New York School artists like Fairfield Porter, Jane Freilicher, and Alex Katz. Button was born in San Francisco, California and studied at the University of California, Berkeley, and the California School of Fine Arts.

Russell Lynes (1910-1991) joined Harper's Magazine as an assistant editor in 1944, and served as managing editor from 1947-1967.
