Emily, thank you for forwarding to the list. I am shocked and saddened to hear this. In library school a professor at Pratt directed me to Tom for career advice in art librarianship, and he became one of my early mentors and champions. He looked at my resume and told he saw "lots of promise and possibility", which made such a difference to me at the time, when I'd only done one library internship and wasn't sure where to go next! He was warm, welcoming, and always had time to chat or give advice, which he did, so very generously. Tom was one of the kindest people I’ve known in the library profession.

If I hear of any information about a memorial I will be sure to share here.

Dear Colleagues,

I received the sad news today that Tom McNulty, Art Librarian at NYU's Bobst Library and faculty at Sotheby's Institute of Art, has passed away.

From Michael Stoller, Associate Dean of Collections & Research Services at NYU:
It is with a very heavy heart that I write to let you all know that our dear friend and colleague, Tom McNulty, has passed away in his sleep. Tom was beloved by all who knew and worked with him, and he leaves a great empty space in all our lives. If there is any comfort, it lies in knowing that Tom deeply loved his work at NYU and all the colleagues and friends whom he so treasured and whose lives he so enriched.

Sincerely,
--
