Hi Maryly,

I think I may have written to you about this in the past, but I actually doubt that any institution subscribes to this source, since it is set up for individuals, as a paper sharing platform, to allow researchers to share and collaborate by "increasing their visibility and monitor research." It is not actually an ‘educational site’ as we understand most .edu sites. I know that independent scholars often use it as a way of sharing their publications, but there are many alternative ways for academics to do this now. Those of us at academic institutions try to steer our scholars toward open access repositories.

See: https://www.forbes.com/sites/drsarahbond/2017/01/23/dear-scholars-delete-your-account-at-academia-edu/, or https://www.chronicle.com/article/The-Case-Against-Academiaedu/242141,  and http://fossilsandshit.com/researchgate-academia-edu-and-bigger-problems-with-scholarly-publishing/ as examples of the myriads of articles making a case against academia.edu.

If I were you, I would treat the messages that you are receiving as if they are spam.

If you want to see who is citing your articles, you could start with Google Scholar. See: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=maryly+snow&btnG=

See: https://scholar.google.com/intl/en/scholar/citations.html#setup for more information about Google Scholar Citations and setting up your scholar profile.

Cheers,

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Academia.edu subscription?

I’m hoping to find one ARLIS/NA member whose institution has a subscription to Academia.edu.

I continue to receive notices that someone either read my paper, cited me, or searched me. I’d love to know what my legacy is.

Please let me know whether your institution has access and whether you can search for me.

Thank you,

Maryly Snow
