Hello everyone,

Two exhibits currently on display, one on the main floor of the Charles E. Young Research Library and the other in the Arts Library, highlight the history of the UCLA Arts Library and its collections.

Seven Decades of Artists' Books in the UCLA Arts Library

Friday, June 22, 2018 to Friday, August 31, 2018

Featuring work by Edgar Arceneaux, Johanna Drucker, Karen Hanmer, Mac McGill, Joni Mabe, Bruno Munari, Howard Munson, Bonnie O'Connell, Ed Ruscha, Daniel R. Smith, Keith A. Smith, Michael Snow, and Kara Walker, "Seven Decades of Artists' Books in the UCLA Arts Library" provides a small window into the rich and diverse collection of artists' books held by the Arts Library<http://www.library.ucla.edu/arts>. Benefitting from major donations from Judith Hoffberg and Robert Heinecken, the collection has grown in size to more than three thousand volumes. Actively used in teaching and outreach, it complements other holdings of artists' books in UCLA Library Special Collections<http://www.library.ucla.edu/special-collections> in arts, humanities, social sciences, medicine, and science and the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library<http://www.library.ucla.edu/location/william-andrews-clark-memorial-library>. The exhibit was organized by Robert Gore (Visual Arts Librarian) with assistance from Dawn Setzer (Director of Library Communications).

Route to 66: 66 Years of Arts Library History

Monday, June 18, 2018 to Friday, November 9, 2018

This year marks the sixty-sixth anniversary since the UCLA Arts Library<http://www.library.ucla.edu/arts> first opened its doors to the public in February of 1952. Originally dedicated to serving the then new art and art history departments, the Art Library later absorbed the Architecture and Urban Planning Library and the Theater Arts Library to form the Arts Library in 1991, eventually moving from Dickson Art Center to the Public Affairs Building in 2002. Today, it is home to a number of unique collections in the areas of architecture, architectural history, art, art history, design, fashion and costume, film, television, photography, theater, and urban design. This exhibit showcases just a few highlights from current and historical collections as well as selected pieces of ephemera that reveal how this singular library came to take the shape that it has today.

Please see our timeline of the history of the Arts Library<https://www.library.ucla.edu/sites/default/files/media/Timeline.pdf> which was developed for the exhibit. The exhibit was organized and curated by Karly Wildenhaus (UCLA MLIS '18)
