Research Librarian for Design, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC

NCSU Libraries is seeking to fill the position of Research Librarian for Design to join the Design Library team of two librarians, two library technicians, and several student assistants working to support learning, research, and discovery in the College of Design. The Design Library offers dynamic, collaborative services and a multimedia collection focused on architecture, landscape architecture, graphic design, industrial design, and art and design. Design Library staff engage faculty and students across all aspects of their academic work, helping them to explore collections, services, spaces, and technologies such as data visualization, 3D modeling, virtual environments, and digital media creation. Library staff works closely with faculty and other university partners to create meaningful connections, partnerships, and projects.

Working with College of Design faculty and students, the Research Librarian for Design develops and delivers high-impact learning experiences, including instruction and workshops on library resources and on emerging digital tools and resources in areas such as visualization and virtual and augmented reality, both in the classroom and online. The position leads and coordinates services that facilitate the use of visual resources and digital image collections. S/He manages the Design Library Digital Image Collection, a database of 150,000 images, and supervises the staff and students who update and maintain it. S/He plans and conducts a variety of outreach and engagement programs and activities, such as orientations, special events, and tours, for the design community and others.

The Research Librarian for Design provides in-depth research consultation with students, faculty, and researchers; and collaborates with faculty, researchers, librarians, technologists, and others on strategic interdisciplinary projects. S/he is responsible for the library in the absence of its director, including managing operations and overseeing the work of others. This position serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams, as well as working groups and committees within the college. NCSU librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field.
