Call for Proposals ARLIS/NA 2019

LGBTQ & Critical Librarianship Special Interest Groups

Perspectives of Intersectionality: Experience and Identity in Art Librarianship

The LGBTQ and Critical Librarianship Special Interest Groups propose a panel session on intersectionality. This session will work in tandem with the Diversity forum, which also focuses on Intersectionality in the library workplace. Panelists will discuss how experience and identity influences, informs, and interacts with their jobs and roles as front-line service providers in art libraries, archives, and museums. The SIGs are looking for presenters who work in Instruction, Public Services, Collection Development, Cataloging, and/or Special Collections/Archives. The scope of intersectionality is intentionally broad, to include race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, (dis)ability, class, religion, immigration status, mental health and wellbeing.

This will be an active session with a breakout section where members of the audience can create their own takeaways and discuss strategies with the panelists.

The SIGs would like presenters to speak briefly and shed light on experiences, thoughts, challenges, and actions they have taken at institutions and/or within their profession to address issues regarding race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, (dis)ability, class, religion, immigration status, mental health and wellbeing. Presentations should touch on their unique work in art libraries, archives, and museums.  All perspectives are encouraged and welcomed.

Examples of topics include but are not limited to:
