The scholarship, initiated this year, was made possible by the financial support of the ARLIS/NA Executive Board and anonymous donors and was created as a membership benefit to assist an early-career librarian with the costs of an overseas study tour, thus insuring a greater diversity of attendees on the tour. Along with the financial benefits of $1,100.00, the scholarship offers professional development opportunities through special assignments that will broaden the reach of the study tour to ARLIS/NA members and to librarians in Cuba.
An active member of ARLIS/NA, Lauren has been a librarian at the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas, since 2016, and was promoted from Assistant Librarian to Librarian in October 2017. She received the M.A., Library and Information Studies with Art Librarianship Emphasis from The iSchool, University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2014.
As part of her scholarship commitments, Lauren will be documenting the tour in real time through social media and assisting with efforts to contribute materials to Cuba on an ongoing basis. We congratulate Lauren on her successful application and look forward to her reports from Havana in June.
