Hello ARLISNA,

We wanted to share the topics we discussed for those unable to attend our LGBTQ+ Special Interest Group at the annual ARLISNA meeting in New York last month.

·         We discussed new initiatives that we are working on at each of our institutions. From displays, participating in local student run organizations and creating supportive research guides. I would like to share my institutions LibGuide for resources on LGBTQ+ architecture http://the-bac.libguides.com/LGBTQarch/home

·         Concerns were raised about travel bands for some members for next year’s conference in Utah. As it stands, none were found. However we will continue to monitor it.

·         We discussed cataloguing queer material and the trouble with LCSH. There is a new book out by Melissa Adler called Cruising the Library that we discussed.

·         We also discussed the ideas for programing for next year’s conference. Some ideas were…

1.       Working with the Maker Space group to create LGBQ+ zines

2.       One Member might like to talk about what it is like to transition in the workplace

3.       What about LCSH and LGBTQ+ material? Perhaps we could sponsor a session about this issue? Maybe reach out the cataloguing sig for a partnership?

·        Lastly we discussed having a monthly email go out to the board. Titled “Out of the Closet and on to the Listserv” will spotlight  new initiatives, resources, highlights at institutions. Member Ralph Baylor has stepped up to help with this.

As always we invite you all to support, join in and participate with us.

Thank you,

Sincerely

Robert-
