Hello Collective Wisdom,

A little while ago, I posed an inquiry about designated Digital Humanities spaces in Art History Libraries. I wanted to know if you have, or do you know of any other art libraries that has something similar?  What type of space and equipment might be involved (in addition to scanners)?

A few people wanted me to post responses, but I only received two:

·        Not in the art library but the Digital Scholarship Center (DSC) at the University of Oregon had what they called sandboxes. For instance, you could get arduinos and other gadgets to try out and figure out stuff. When I was there, I ended up co-teaching a digital art history course with an art history professor and a librarian based in the DSC. https://dsc.uoregon.edu/

·        Our old departmental slide room has evolved into a Collaboratory. Quint Gregory, who is cc'd here, has been the driving force behind this thriving space and the department's specialty in "Digital Art History." Thanks.

I have had a couple of verbal conversations with fellow art librarians from academic institutions, and it seems that much in-depth digital activity (GIS, 3-D modelling, scanning, creating datasets, etc.) takes place in centrally-located facilities and labs where there is technological support.

I am still very interested to learn what other Art Libraries are doing on this front.  Even if DH work conducted or supported by other departments in their universities.

Cheers,
