We welcome both members and non-members of the SIG!

We have a simple yet exciting meeting planned, with the first 30 minutes being a presentation by Paul Levitz<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fpaullevitz.com%2Fbackstory%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cts20%40txstate.edu%7C6e3046571176488df49b08d57a4144c0%7Cb19c134a14c94d4caf65c420f94c8cbb%7C0%7C0%7C636549343128770051&sdata=vQWYcMsMgydrQ6aixns4eMlk0D7FqLFkMY9TlTccMJI%3D&reserved=0> about the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcbldf.org%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cts20%40txstate.edu%7C6e3046571176488df49b08d57a4144c0%7Cb19c134a14c94d4caf65c420f94c8cbb%7C0%7C0%7C636549343128770051&sdata=fdf2TB3EDoLWUeYeG5LPOgnL3XE94b3dpvu7cikLIy0%3D&reserved=0>.

Levitz serves on the board of this non-profit dedicated to providing "legal referrals, representation, advice, assistance and education to cases affecting the First Amendment right to read, create, publish, sell, and distribute comics and graphic novels." Levitz is an interesting person on his own having served as the President & Publisher of DC Comics from 2002-2009, being the author of several fiction and non-fiction titles (75 Years of DC Comics: The Art of Modern Mythmaking<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.taschen.com%2Fpages%2Fen%2Fcatalogue%2Fgraphic_design%2Fall%2F06749%2Ffacts.75_years_of_dc_comics_the_art_of_modern_mythmaking.htm&data=02%7C01%7Cts20%40txstate.edu%7C6e3046571176488df49b08d57a4144c0%7Cb19c134a14c94d4caf65c420f94c8cbb%7C0%7C0%7C636549343128770051&sdata=9Au5sMsTmsd54uOdhDcebYkDSFAA%2FJxjTSaJfgIuvjE%3D&reserved=0> won an Eisner<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FEisner_Award&data=02%7C01%7Cts20%40txstate.edu%7C6e3046571176488df49b08d57a4144c0%7Cb19c134a14c94d4caf65c420f94c8cbb%7C0%7C0%7C636549343128770051&sdata=3yu5shNBjKDUd0YlYiKKlUMPi3hzFa3lr1CuaXo6npY%3D&reserved=0>), and teaching at several institutions on publishing, writing, and American culture.

The 2nd half of our meeting will be open to discussion about what we're working on or what we're interested in related to graphic novels, comics, and sequential art.

Even if you don't attend, we did want to let folks know about an exhibition at the Society of Illustrators about March<https://www.societyillustrators.org/exhibits/march> that has an opening at 6:30pm on March 1st<https://www.societyillustrators.org/events/opening-reception-art-march-civil-rights-masterpiece>. According to Nate Powell's Twitter account<https://twitter.com/Nate_Powell_Art/status/967100447357046784?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet> (the illustrator for the series) he'll be there on 3/1 too!

We look forward to seeing you in NYC!
