HI Rhonda!

It’s not clear if you are looking for free art image websites or paid ones but there are a lot of them out there. I’ve been compiling a list of free image collections on the web for our local wiki and it’s very much a work-in-progress, however, I’m attaching a link to my working document on it (it has other free resources as well). I also drew upon a Libguide developed by Aalto University Library in Finland.

Their Libguide is at http://libguides.aalto.fi/vrc - you’ll come to the Finnish language page first but it can be switched to English.

My working document (scroll down for the list of image databases) is at https://docs.google.com/document/d/10YAsj1XYSh_uCB7JE4_lIOqR2WCvqf6x_VLFHl9Y9S4/edit?usp=sharing

I would generally direct students in the first instance to Google Art Project, however for religious icons, I would suggest Europeana first and then probably the Warburg Institute’s Photographic Collection.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards,

Catherine

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Art images on the internet

I have a really basic question about finding art images on the internet.  Do you have any “go to” sites that you send students to when they are looking for images?  The student I am working with is looking for religious icon images from different cultures.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Rhonda
