Electronic Resources Librarian - Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY



POSITION SUMMARY:



Under the general supervision of the Chair of Library Faculty, but with routine day-to-day collaboration with the Head of Technical Services, the Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for the management of electronic and digital resources and serials subscriptions specifically regarding issues of access, user support, and resource acquisition. As library resources evolve and with a view across formats, this position will contribute to the evaluation of scholarly and disciplinary resources by providing data on elements such as format options, usage patterns, cost, and relevance to Pratt's areas of study and research. In addition to familiarity with subscription based electronic resources, the candidate will be knowledgeable about managing access to born digital and open access resources.

The Electronic Resources Librarian is a 12-month per year, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank. Library faculty have academic departmental liaison responsibilities that include collection development and management, information literacy instruction, and outreach. Located on Pratt's historic 25-acre campus in the culturally diverse neighborhood of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, Pratt recognizes the strength that stems from a diversity of perspectives, ideas, backgrounds, approaches, and experiences. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:



Resource Management

Provide leadership in the coordination and management of e-resource collections:
*         Maintain access to e-resources on and off campus
*         Maintain e-resource management systems
*         Manage metadata related to open access resources
*         Research terms of licenses
*         Subscription activation and invoicing
*         Subscription renewals


Resource Evaluation

Assist in the collection development of e-resources and serial subscriptions:
*         Collect, distribute, and analyze usage statistics and other data
*         Make recommendations regarding vendors, resources, platforms, and format of information
*         Set up database trials and coordinate related outreach and facilitating feedback
*         Work with the Serials Maintenance Technician and subject selectors to coordinate print & electronic serials subscriptions and the evaluation thereof
*         Stay current with emerging trends and issues involving digital and electronic resources and serial publications


Resource Access & Discovery

Ensure usability of e-resource platforms and ease of access to e-resource content:
*         Act as contact person for outages, platform updates, access problems, purchase requests and solicitations
*         Integrate content into a discovery service
*         Work with other campus departments to ensure efficiencies in the libraries' electronic resources, Web presence and ADA compliance


The Library & The Institute

Perform faculty related service within the Libraries and for the Institute:
*         Participate in providing reference service and library instruction to individuals and groups, including library faculty and staff
*         Serve on Institute and Library-wide committees.
*         Participate in outreach efforts to assigned liaison areas
*         Collection development and management of assigned subject areas
*         Meet requirements for promotion and tenure
*         Perform other duties and special projects as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:



Education:
*         ALA accredited Master's degree in Library Science or equivalent


Experience:
*         3 years library experience


Skills:
*         Demonstrated knowledge of SUSHI protocol and COUNTER standards.
*         Demonstrated facility with spreadsheet software and experience doing data cleanup.
*         Familiarity with electronic resources management tools such as Serial Solutions, EZ Proxy, and iii Electronic Resource Management
*         Strong organizational skills and the ability to set and modify work priorities independently with a high degree of initiative
*         Excellent oral and written communication skills
*         Knowledge of principles of diversity and inclusion; ability to work well with diverse populations; and demonstrated level of cultural competence

SALARY range is mid $60,000s annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
