CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
Under limited supervision of the Director of Visual Resources, the Communications Coordinator performs a variety of communications duties that relate to the overall operation of the Department of Art History. The main emphasis of the job will be to create written and visual content for the Department and distribute it online and in print. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the regular operation of the Department's Visual Resources Center. The incumbent works closely with the Director of Visual Resources and the department's administrative staff to take care of the needs of the faculty and students, and to accomplish the goals of the Department of Art History.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Administer and maintain the Department of Art History's website and social media accounts.
  *
In consultation with the Director of Visual Resources, Department of Art History faculty, College of Arts and Sciences Communications Team, and others, develop and execute a social media strategy for the promotion of the Department, its individuals, and its activities.
  *
Gather and solicit news and other material for online and print distribution from Department faculty and students, UDaily, and other sources.
  *
Produce and distribute the following while adhering to University brand guides as well as policies and procedures governing IT/web standards: digital content (both written and visual) for the Department's website and social media accounts; brochures, flyers, and other print materials for the Department; the Department of Art History's annual Insight newsletter in both digital and print forms.
  *
Promote and document (both online and print) Department of Art History events in writing, photographs, and video. These include the Graduate Student Lecture Series, Art History Club activities, and other events organized by faculty, students, and staff.
  *
Coordinate public relations activities, marketing, and institutional branding of the Department of Art History with faculty, student, and staff liaisons in the Department, and with other units at the University of Delaware. Serve as departmental liaison to other University of Delaware communications units, including the College of Arts and Sciences' Communications and Information Technology teams, and the University's Office of Communications and Marketing. Coordinate printed publications with the Department's Business Administrator.

In coordination with the Director of Visual Resources, the University of Delaware Library, and the University's Office of General Counsel, ensure that all written and visual materials in departmental communications and publications adhere to the highest ethical and legal standards, and are free of any and all instances of plagiarism and/or copyright infringement. Ensure that all communications and publications include mandatory legal notices, such as the University of Delaware's Notice of Non-Discrimination.

Assist the Director of Visual Resources with the operation of the Department's Visual Resources Center. Assist in the processing of digital image orders. Train and supervise undergraduate and graduate student assistants. Troubleshoot problems with computers, projectors, and other classroom technology for Department faculty, students, and staff.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
·         High school diploma/GED and five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
·         Excellent writing skills in English.
·         Experience in copyediting and proofreading.
·         Experience using and applying standard style guides (AP Stylebook, Chicago Manual of Style, MLA Handbook).
·         Experience in graphic design and photography.
·         Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop), Google Apps, Microsoft Office.
·         Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint and WordPress.
·         Familiarity with web standards, accessibility, and usability.
·         Experience with social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube).
·         Experience with mobile, apps, blogging, podcasting, Skype, and streaming audio/video.
·         Experience in troubleshooting computer hardware and software and audio-visual equipment.
·         Working knowledge of copyright and other intellectual property rights.
·         Knowledge of standards (XMP, IPTC) for embedded metadata in digital files.
·         Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization practices.
