Kim:

Did you try searching Flickr using the Hindi script for the name(s)?  Flickr accepts all languages and often when I’m looking for an image in a specific country, going to google translate and throwing in a simple noun to get the vernacular-language name brings up images taken by locals which are unique.  I wouldn’t presume to use google translate for a proper name (and couldn’t find it easily on the web just now), but if your faculty could provide that, it might pull up other images.  Ditto with a google images search.

Apologies if you did this already.

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Nur Jahan's RamBagh (Agra, Inda)

Dear collective wisdom,

Like Goldilocks, my South Asian librarian colleague and I are looking for a print, drawing, or photograph of Nur Jahan's RamBagh (Agra, India) for a faculty member who would like to put it on a book cover.  Apparently, many of the images (mostly photographs) we have found have been used over and over and the faculty member would like something a little more unique.  Any ideas, beyond the list below, where we might look?

What we’ve done so far:

·         Approx. 17 images on Artstor

·         Images on Flickr Creative Commons: https://www.flickr.com/search/?text=%22Ram%20Bagh%20agra%22

·         South Asia curator at V&A consulted

·         British Library’s Asia, Pacific & Africa collections:

·         The Kern Collection. A search for “Agra” brought up 153 images.https://digitalcollections.universiteitleiden.nl/

·         “Beyond the Taj” collection from Cornell. See this image under “Akbari Mahal.

·         AMES Library of South Asia

·         Digital South Asia Library

·         Huntington Archive

Sometimes “Ram Bagh” is also spelled as one word “Rambagh.” Searching for “Agra” and then sifting through the images than by searching for the name of the monument, is helpful.

Thanks, as always.

Kim
