Dear Colleagues,
In case you are attending ALA in Chicago, please consider attending the Forum of the Preservation and Reformatting Section of ALCTS:
Preservation projects in the Community: Performing Arts Readiness and Preservation in Action
Please come and hear about two exciting projects that are taking preservation expertise in new directions.
Sunday, June 25, 4:30-5:30 pm, McCormick Place W194b
Tom
Clareson, Project Director for the Performing Arts Readiness project
will talk about upcoming disaster preparedness networking grants
available through the PAR initiative as well as workshops, webinars and
other opportunities for cultural heritage and performing arts
organizations to work together.
Katie Risseeuw,
head of Preservation at Northwestern University, will speak on
Preservation in Action. Preservation in Action (PiA) is an outreach
event held during ALA's Annual conference. Currently in its second year,
the goal of PiA is increased awareness of preservation practices for
both conference attendees and local cultural institutions, especially in
organizations holding materials of historically underrepresented
communities. This year's project will take place at the Rebuild
Foundation's Stony Island Arts Bank in Chicago, IL, where volunteers
will be rehousing a collection of ephemera, photos, newspapers and
objects. The forum presentation will give an overview of the Stony Island Arts Bank collections, project planning and outcomes of the day.
