Dear Luiza –

It’s Jonathan Ward, from the Vocabulary Program. Thanks for your question.

I sent it along to our programmer, Gregg Garcia. While he can’t comment on LODRefine, he allowed me to send along a primer he made on OpenRefine and our LOD. Perhaps it may help. If you need further assistance, please let me know, and I’ll put you in touch with Gregg directly.

Much appreciated –

Jonathan

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Reconciliation with AAT in OpenRefine

Dear Collective Wisdom,

I know many of you have embarked in Linked Data projects, so I was wondering if I could enlist your help to figure out how to reconcile my data with Getty's AAT in OpenRefine.

Right now I’m exploring various tools to produce 5-star metadata as well as to provide guidelines on the best applications for future projects. Besides trying out good ol' SPARQL queries and data integration frameworks like Silk and LIMES, I've decided to try out LODRefine (Open Refine with integrated RDF extensions), mostly given the ubiquity of OpenRefine in other LOD projects.

I have tried using the AAT's SPARQL endpoint as a SPARQL based reconciliation service, even though it is not a reconcilable data source in OpenRefine (but I’m stubborn that way). I’ve also tried downloading an RDF version of the AAT and uploading it to LODRefine as a file-based reconciliation service, but I can’t filter it by language to obtain the results I want. When I try to preemptively filter by language by SPARQLing, I can only download the results as a JSON or XML file, file types that are not accepted by LODRefine. The Getty has provides a work-around based on Inge van Stokkom's solution, but I can't get it to run either.

I’d love to know how you managed to get this service to work, if at all.

Thank you in advance,

- Luiza Wainer
