Dear ARLIS/NA Community,

It’s been a little over two months since the annual conference in New Orleans, and I wanted to bring you up-to-date on some of ARLIS/NA’s Executive Board activities.

-          The white paper State of Art Museum Libraries 2016 was approved and can be found at:  https://www.arlisna.org/publications/arlis-na-research-reports/1144-state-of-art-museum-libraries-2016-white-paper.   Compliments to the following co-authors for their work on this document:  Anne Evenhaugen, Shaina Buckles Harkness, Alison Huftalen, Nicole Lovenjak, Mary Wassermann, and editor Roger Lawson.    The directors of The American Alliance of Museums, the Association of Art Museum Directors, and the Association of Art Museum Curators received links to the white paper.

-          There are plans to make statements from the Executive Board more prominent and accessible on the ARLIS/NA web site.   Two recent statements include one on the elimination of funding for the NEA, NEH, and IMLS:  https://www.arlisna.org/news/news-events/1118-arlis-na-statement-nea-neh-imls-funding-elimination-february2017 as well as another on immigration and international collaboration:  https://www.arlisna.org/news/news-events/1140-arlis-na-statement-immigration-international-collaboration

-          The Board discussed the upcoming SEI workshop with VRA, and a Statement of Inclusivity has been posted on the web page for SEI’s 2017 workshop:   https://seiworkshop.org/statement-of-inclusivity/

-          The ARLIS/NA Executive Board is drafting language for a policy on ARLIS/NA event cancellations.

-          The Board approved revising Special Funding Requests to remove the $500 limit for chapters.

-          A proposal to form a Management SIG has been approved.

-          The Census of Art Information Professionals Report of Findings was approved with thanks to the Survey of Personnel Characteristics Task Force:  Stacy Brinkman, Jon Evans, Billy Kwan, and Lily Pregill.   A new task force will be formed to give more analysis to the current data to create a report with recommendations for next steps.

-          The revised edition of the Core Competencies for Art Information Professionals (February 2017) was approved.  The Board thanks the Professional Development Committee and the following individuals for this work on this document, which identifies the knowledge, behaviors, and skills currently essential to professional positions within the art information field:  Karen Stafford, Maggie Portis, Amy Andres, and Janine Henri.

-          The Board has approved the creation of a Data and Analytics Task Force to examine how ARLIS/NA can gather and track data about art libraries over a period of time in order to advocate for the profession.

-          For non-US members who paid dues at the old membership rate, refund checks were recently posted and mailed from ARLIS/NA Headquarters.  This refund reflects the new dues structure.

-          Finally, please consider submitting a proposal for a paper, session, or workshop for the ARLIS/NA 2018 annual conference in New York City.  The form can be found at:  https://www.arlisna.org/newyork2018/submissions/openconf.php.

There are many other activities going on – thanks to the commitment of all of the Society’s divisions, sections, SIGS, appointees, task forces, and board members.   If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or your Executive Board liaison.

Sincerely,

Eumie Imm Stroukoff
