The Co-Moderators of the Materials SIG, Teri Dowling and Johanna Kasubowski, would like to organize a session for the ARLIS/NA 2018 Conference on the topic *: * *Library collections and object-based learning in the art and design curriculum* Increasingly, art and design libraries are broadening the scope of their collections to include various materials used in the art and design curriculum - art objects, material product samples, color samples, design objects, fashion construction samples, natural history samples, games. These collections pose unique challenges for libraries to organize and provide access for their patrons. We invite papers on people’s experiences in areas such as: - Building, organizing, and providing access to these collections - Partnering with faculty - Funding, working with donors - Uses in instruction and visual or other literacies - Lessons learned - Digital access and discovery *Proposals and Timeline:* If you’d like to present as part of this session, please submit an abstract by April 21st. We will compile a session proposal before the May 1st, 2017 deadline. Looking forward to hearing from you. *Teri Dowling* Associate Director of Libraries California College of the Arts 1111 Eighth Street San Francisco, CA, 94107 415.703.9559 [log in to unmask] Johanna Kasubowski / Materials and Media Collections Librarian / Special Collections / Frances Loeb Library / Graduate School of Design / Harvard University / 48 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA 02138 / t 617-384-7499 <%28617%29%20384-7499>/ *jkasubowski* <goog_1794914006>*@gsd.harvard.edu* <http:[log in to unmask]> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mail submissions to [log in to unmask] For information about joining ARLIS/NA see: http://www.arlisna.org/membership/join-arlisna Send administrative matters (file requests, subscription requests, etc) to [log in to unmask] ARLIS-L Archives and subscription maintenance: http://lsv.arlisna.org Questions may be addressed to list owner (Judy Dyki) at: [log in to unmask] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
