Dear Eumie:

I am so very glad that this paper, which has been in the works for several years, originally produced primarily for members of the Museum Division, is now available for the larger ARLIS membership and especially for the many art museum librarians who cannot always attend the conference.  It is both an overview of the field as a whole and a close-up look at six American art museum libraries in various circumstances.  I have to admit that the frequent references to a “2016 MDCS Survey” left me baffled until I reached pp. 20-21, which revealed a summary of the “2016 Museum Division Current State Survey.”  (The acronym is explained in a footnote on p.3 that I overlooked—oops.)  Has the summary been posted separately on ARLIS-L?  I would like to suggest that the survey be posted on the Museum Division page of the ARLIS/NA website alongside the survey that I did of “Small Art Museum Libraries”  back in 2002, which is still posted there—and which is still referred to occasionally.  The entire article is very well-written and will, I think, be helpful to art museum librarians in almost any circumstance.  My thanks to you and the rest of the Executive Board for acknowledging the quality of this paper and the hard work of all of those who contributed by gathering all of this good information into one place.  Thanks to all!!
