IMLS is the source of Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) federal grant program for libraries in Wisconsin<https://dpi.wi.gov/pld/lsta> under the “Grants to States” program<https://www.imls.gov/grants/grants-states>. To get an idea of all the important ways that public libraries and public library systems are supported by LSTA funding, take a look at the Wisconsin 2016 LSTA Division for Libraries & Technology Managed Projects and Resources<https://dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/pld/pdf/staff16.pdf> report. WVLS Assistant Director Inese Christman is a member of the Wisconsin LSTA Advisory Council.
LSTA funding and other IMLS programs are essential to all libraries and citizens at the local level.
Nothing will change for IMLS or other agencies immediately. The White House budget plan is a political document conveying the president’s priorities to Congress, which writes the federal budget.
The American Library Association is expected to send out another press release by the end of this week and on Monday afternoon with more of an action plan for mass publication. Please contact your State Association’s legislative committee to provide action plans.

It was the first time a president has called for ending the endowments, which were created in 1965 under President Lyndon B. Johnson.
