There was a lot of interest in hearing the responses to my question about vision statements and strategic planning. A few art libraries have their own vision statements. Those who have strategic plans are working within a larger university library system, and set their goals within the structure of the library system’s strategic plan.

At the University of Pittsburgh, our Frick Fine Arts Library goals are nested within the larger library system’s goals, which are then mapped to the University’s strategic plan. I’d like to explore ways of articulating our distinct vision and strategy within this structure. If anyone is interested in talking about this, please get in touch.

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Vision and strategic plans

Dear ARLIS folks,
Do any of you have your own vision statement and/or strategic plan for your art library? I’m particularly interested in academic art libraries that are physically separate from the main library on campus, but I’d also love to hear from anyone that has a vision or plan, whether in a museum, public library, or other cultural organization. I’m not seeing many publicly available statements like this, and so I wonder if you have formal or informal private documents? Or thoughts you’d like to share on this? Feel free to reply privately or publicly, and I will compile and post to the group.
Thanks,
Kate
