Dear ARLIS/NA Community, The Executive Board and the Art Librarian Parents and Caregivers Special Interest Group (ALPACA) are pleased to announce a trial initiative at this year's annual conference in New Orleans: on-site conference childcare. The Executive Board and ALPACA recognize that many members of the ARLIS/NA community must weigh family responsibilities with professional opportunities. For some, this means bringing children to the conference and having a partner or family provide childcare. For others this means that attending the conference is not an option. Missing a conference and its ensuing opportunities can impact research productivity and professional development, as well as isolating a member from the supportive and invigorating professional atmosphere of the annual meeting. In support of the ARLIS/NA Core Values<https://www.arlisna.org/about/strategic-directions> of diversity and inclusivity and in keeping with our Strategic Direction tenets of leadership and advocacy, the Executive Board and ALPACA hope that providing conference childcare will enable more art library professionals to attend and fully participate in the conference. Providing conference childcare for ARLIS/NA members distinguishes the Society as part of an emerging class of professional groups and companies who acknowledge the challenges working parents face and who are endeavoring to provide accommodations for the healthy balance of work and family life. After extensive interviews, the Executive Board has selected A Charmed Life Childcare<http://www.acharmedlifechildcare.com/> to provide on-site conference childcare from Monday, February 6 through Wednesday, February 8 from 8am to 5pm. Childcare will be available for infants up to age 6, for full or partial days. Participants will be asked to pay $40 per child/per day to help offset the cost of care. This rate is open to ARLIS/NA members and non-members. Participants may register for childcare using the online conference registration form New Orleans ARLIS/NA Annual Conference<http://www.arlisna.org/neworleans2017/registration.php>. The last day to register for childcare will be January 9, 2017. The Executive Board and ALPACA will conduct an assessment of the initiative after the conference in New Orleans to determine if it is an appropriate program to undertake at future conferences.
