Some news outlets report that the pressure is on from the media industry to move authority to reappoint a Register of Copyrights to the Executive Branch, away from the Library of Congress. Pallante had been removed as head of the Copyright Office on Friday and was reassigned to be a senior adviser for digital strategy - but she's not taking the job. In a statement, House Judiciary Committee leaders <https://cd.politicopro.com/member/51404> Bob Goodlatte and <https://cd.politicopro.com/member/51329> John Conyers called her departure "a tremendous loss" for the office and for American creators. The lawmakers, who are in the middle of a broad review of copyright law, also suggested it might be time for a reassessment of how the register of copyrights is selected - right now, the decision is up to the Librarian of Congress.
