Access Services Librarian - The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, PA

Position Summary:
Directs and supervises all aspects of the main library circulation desk activities, ensuring a professional level of service and practice at the most visible point of service. Supervises main library circulation staff and coordinates the work of all circulation staff. Provides reference service and information literacy instruction, and develops and participates in outreach efforts.

Responsibilities:

·         Provides and directs circulation services, and manages all financial transactions. Supervises and trains circulation staff and student assistants.

·         Serves as library liaison to College of Art, Media and Design’s Core Studies program, School of Art, MFA in Studio Art, and the University Common Curriculum.

·         Plans and conducts outreach activities including new student orientation activities and promotion of library services and collections through social media.

·         Provides library instruction in the library and in the classroom.
Develops materials to support and promote instructional efforts and to ensure UArts community awareness of library resources and services.

·         Provides reference services for all patrons both in house and online.

·         Plans and directs collection maintenance activities.

·         Serves as liaison with Office of the Registrar and Student Financial Services regarding student obligations and registration.

·         Compiles and submits statistics and provides analysis when needed.

Qualifications:

·         An ALA-accredited master’s degree in library/information science and a bachelor’s degree in the arts or humanities.

·         At least two years of professional experience working in an academic library.

·         Experience teaching information literacy/library research to undergraduate and/or graduate students.

·         Knowledge of research methods, literature, and tools.

·         Ability to develop new ideas and contribute to library improvements and outreach efforts.

·         Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with faculty, students, supervisor, and other library staff.

·         Ability to lead and motivate staff and student assistants to ensure a productive and positive work and public service environment.

·         Ability to organize, schedule work, set priorities for self and supervisees, meet deadlines, and follow through independently on assignments

·         Knowledge of automated procedures in integrated library systems for circulation and online catalog functions.

·         Working knowledge of computer applications including productivity software, web authoring, and web browser programs.

·         Outstanding organizational, and verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.

·         Knowledge of activities and current developments in the library profession.
