Manager of Collections Information and Library Systems - The Morgan Library & Museum, New York, NY

 

Responsibilities:
The Morgan Library & Museum seeks a knowledgeable, dynamic, forward-looking individual for the position of Manager of Collections Information and Library Systems.


The Manager of Collections Information and Library Systems is responsible for managing the overall operations of the Voyager Integrated Library System (ILS); managing the transfer of collection information data between Voyager and other systems both in-house and outside the Morgan (excluding TMS); providing support for cataloging operations, and for overseeing bibliographic control and database maintenance in the Voyager ILS.


Two full-time professionals and a varying number of part-time employees and interns report to the Manager of Collections Information and Library Systems. The position reports to the Director of Research Services.

 

Qualifications:

·         MLS from an ALA-accredited program

·         BA or higher degree in Humanities

·         Substantial experience at the supervisory level in cataloging and technical services

·         Substantial experience in system administration of an ILS (preferably Voyager)

·         Experience with special collections materials

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·         Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and monitor expenditures

·         Familiarity with library systems, bibliographic utilities, collection management systems and practices

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel and Word

·         Knowledge of relevant cataloging and metadata standards, guidelines, and practices

·         Familiarity with relational databases and their application in library and museum environments

·         Familiarity with standards and best practices for Web-based resource discovery of cultural heritage materials

·         Ability to analyze work flows and processes and translate them into effective work plans

·         Knowledge of Western European languages preferred

·         Ability to work collaboratively and productively with all departments at the Morgan

·         Ability to work for extended periods on the computer

·         Ability to lift moderately heavy boxes of material as needed
