Just FYI--

Ohio University Press has several recent and forthcoming art titles of interest to ARLIS members:

The Illustrated Letters of Richard Doyle to His Father, 1842-1843 (JAN 2016), edited by Grant Scott
“This beautifully presented book contains for the first time the complete series of fifty-three illustrated letters written to his father by Richard Doyle, the ‘precocious boy’ who would become famous for his Punch drawings […] Doyle and his family remain as much of an enigma to me after reading these letters as they were before, though their reproduction here in all their elusive detail, scrupulously annotated by the editor, is both pleasurable and educative.”—Times Literary Supplement

Winold Reiss and the Cincinnati Union Terminal: Fanfare for the Common Man (AUG 2016), by Gretchen Garner
This illustrated art history reflects upon the Mexican muralist movement, American regionalism, and Art Deco. As biography, it tells the story of an obscure artist, a German immigrant who did commercial work in NYC and was interested in Native American culture. Garner, an independent art historian, focuses on Reiss’s mosaic mural masterpiece. The book collects 77 images, including most of the Cincinnati murals and other works by Reiss.

Crazy Quilts: A Beginner’s Guide (AUG 2016), by Betty Fikes Pillsbury
Pillsbury, a widely recognized expert, shares her methods for piecing, embroidering, and embellishing crazy quilts. Approximately 250 illustrations detail the techniques of Pillsbury’s instruction and feature finished works by other quilt artists.

Following the Barn Quilt Trail (MAY 2016), by Suzi Parron
After documenting the barn quilt trail phenomenon in her first book (Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement-2011), author Suzi Parron took to the road with her new husband, their dog, and a converted bus to find even more barn quilt trails across the U.S. and Canada. This sequel (134 illustrations) blends travelogue and Americana with people’s stories about quilts, barns, and a rural grassroots art movement.

Ohio University Press books are distributed by the Chicago Distribution Center and are available from most wholesalers.
