Hello ARLIS! I'm pleased to announce the completion of our first bona fide digital collection: Seattle Art Museum Annual Reports. This is a collection of digitized and born-digital annual reports and other financial and strategic documentation issued by the Seattle Art Museum from 1932 to the present. Together, the reports tell the story of the museum as it has grown from its modest inception to become the iconic cultural institution it is today. The collection is available in several places, including: Shared Shelf Commons<http://www.sscommons.org/openlibrary/welcome.html#3|collections|7731003||Seattle20Art20Museum20Libraries3A20Annual20Report20Collection|||>, our new Omeka.net site<http://samlibraries.omeka.net/exhibits/show/samreports>, and also via the Seattle Art Museum's website, both through the Libraries' website<http://www.seattleartmuseum.org/programs-and-learning/libraries-and-resources> (click on Digital Collections), and the Museum's Governance page<http://www.seattleartmuseum.org/about-sam/governance>. Additionally, we have also completed phase one of a second digital collection: Seattle Art Museum Annual Exhibition of Residential Architecture, 1950-1980. Starting in 1950, the Seattle Art Museum featured tours and exhibitions of residential architecture. The general public were invited into gated communities and private enclaves, welcomed, and served tea and cookies. The tours continued until 1980. Developed and run by the Art Museum Guild, these tours document the changes and growth of both the museum and the Seattle metropolitan area. These tours opened the doors of prominent civic figures, from industrial magnates to university deans and presidents, and provided an intimate portrait of them through architecture, interior design, and art collections. This collection, comprised of digitized maps and brochures, is currently available through our Omeka.net site<http://samlibraries.omeka.net/exhibits/show/residential-architecture-tours/>. Second and third phases, which will include photography and local press coverage documents, will be available via Shared Shelf, as well as Omeka.net.
