Dear colleagues,

We are seeking volunteers for a task force to develop the curriculum for
the National Digital Stewardship Residency Art Information Program.

   - Do you have experience with curriculum development?
   - Have you started or are you planning a digital preservation project at
   your institution?
   - Have you developed internship programs and other hand-on work
   experiences for new professionals?
   - Do you want to help expand digital stewardship skills among art
   librarians and visual resource curators?

By developing the NDSR Art curriculum, you can contribute to the
professional development of NDSR Art's selected residents and hosts and
enrich the educational resources for digital preservation available to all
of ARLIS/NA's membership. If you would like to volunteer for the task
force, please email Shalimar White, ARLIS/NA Education Liaison, by *Wednesday,

*Project Overview*

The National Digital Stewardship Residency (NDSR) program fosters digital
information expertise through meaningful hands on experiences. The mission
of the NDSR is to build a dedicated community of professionals who will
advance our nation's capabilities in managing, preserving, and making
accessible the digital record of human achievement. The first NDSR program
launched at the Library of Congress in 2013. NDSR programs have been hosted
in New York, Boston, and this summer a nation-wide NDSR program for public
broadcasting archives will begin. In September 2016, NDSR Art will promote
the advancement of digital stewardship skills in art information through a
nationally dispersed cohort of eight residents over the course of two
years. NDSR Art supports art librarians and visual resource curators in
their endeavor to provide long-term, durable access to born digital works
of art and publications, images, institutional repositories, and
interactive technologies.

*NDSR Art Curriculum*

NDSR Art enhances skills to ensure quality access, presentation, and
preservation of our digital cultural heritage for 21st century users and
future generations. NDSR Art residents and mentors will be trained in the
latest forms of digital preservation, such as digital forensics, emulation,
and displaying and accessing complex digital art objects in various file
formats. NDSR Art enhances access to digital scholarship in areas such as
electronic publications, complex media and images, and provenance through
the development of sound institutional repositories and work flows. The
NSDR Arts curriculum addresses digital rights management, copyright, and
fair use within the context of cultural heritage institutions.

The NDSR Art curriculum will bring together resources from the Library of
Congress’s Digital Preservation Outreach and Education (DPOE) program, past
NDSR curricula, and the ARLIS/NA community. An ARLIS/NA NSDR Art Curriculum
Development Task force will plan instructions for a four-day immersion
training course in August and create online training modules to augment
skills throughout year-long residencies. Art information training modules
will be shared through the NDSR Art residency program, ARLIS/NA’s Learning
Portal, and in future DPOE training platforms.

*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*

*PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART AND ARLIS/NA AWARDED MAJOR IMLS GRANT*

OAK CREEK, WI (April 29, 2016)—The Art Libraries Society of North America
(ARLIS/NA) is pleased to announce the receipt of an Institute of Museum and
Library Services (IMLS) grant in partnership with the Philadelphia Museum
of Art. This shared grant from the IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian
Program carries an award of $421,750.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art will partner with the Art Libraries Society
of North America to adapt the existing National Digital Stewardship
residency (NDSR) program to create a curriculum focused on art information
management. The project will support eight residents over two years.
Residents will complete projects at art and cultural heritage libraries
across the country, increasing the functionality and accessibility of their
host institutions' digital content and services. Mid-career mentors at each
institution will also have the opportunity to participate in training and
professional development. Curricula developed for this program will also be
distributed by ARLIS/NA, increasing the impact of the project for art
librarians and archivists nationwide.

Kristen Regina, Arcadia Director of the Library and Archives at the
Philadelphia Museum of Art and Past President of ARLIS/NA, remarked,
“IMLS’s recognition of and support for this project is huge, as it invests
in the future of art information professionals and sustains, preserves, and
makes accessible for future generations the art and cultural heritage
information of today. We are thrilled to receive this award.”

Heather Gendron, President of ARLIS/NA, stated, “This partnership is an
expression of ARLIS/NA’s ongoing commitment to the professional development
of its members and exemplifies the cross-pollination needed in order to
build a sustainable and robust digital infrastructure for our nation’s
cultural heritage institutions.”
