We’re thrilled to introduce the <http://seiworkshop.org/curriculum/>amazing
instructors <http://seiworkshop.org/curriculum/instructors-2/> for this
year’s Summer Educational Institute, many of whom are joining us for the
first time! We’ll be highlighting one instructor from the 2016 curriculum
<http://seiworkshop.org/curriculum/class-descriptions/> each week, so be
sure to stay tuned.

We’re happy to introduce Euan Cochrane, who will be teaching our Digital
Preservation Workshops, Part 1 & 2. The six foundational steps of DPOE
(Digital Preservation Outreach and Education) will be covered: Identify,
Select, Store, Protect, Manage, & Provide. Topics will include an
explanation of the life cycle of diverse digital media and will cover the
fundamentals for ensuring long term preservation and access to collections.
Standards and best practices, building organizational capacity, and
planning and implementing infrastructure will be discussed. We’ll explore
some of the practical questions associated with getting started,
establishing a workflow for a reliable preservation environment, how to
advocate for essential resources, and building institutional partnerships.

In its 13th year as a joint program between the Art Libraries Society of
North America <https://www.arlisna.org/> (ARLIS/NA) and the Visual
Resources Association Foundation <http://www.vrafoundation.org/> (VRAF),
SEI 2106 will be held at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
<http://www.unc.edu/>, from June 7-10, 2016.

SEI provides both new and more experienced professionals the opportunity to
stay current in rapidly changing fields of digitization, project
management, fair use and copyright, metadata, and digital preservation, as
well as significant networking opportunities. As a 2015 SEI graduate noted,
“The curriculum was excellent in scope, striking a balance between
detailed, practical exploration of relevant skills & tools, and putting
these in the context of broader issues in visual resources/arts
librarianship.”

SEI 2016 is filling up. Register <http://seiworkshop.org/registration/>
