Director - Cleveland Institute of Art's Gund Library, Cleveland, OH

Cleveland Institute of Art is one of the nation's leading independent colleges of art and design. Recognizing the importance of the visual arts in society, the college strives to make enduring contributions in education, research, and service. The library's focus is international; its collection of contemporary art books and exhibition catalogs ranks among the best American college libraries; and its artists' books collection is nationally recognized. We are seeking a Director of the Gund Library. This position reports into the Senior Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Chief Academic Officer, and oversees a librarian staff collectively responsible for planning, developing and implementing library services, programs and collections in support of the CIA's degree program curriculum and educational mission.

Essential Responsibilities:

(1) Collection management, including establishing and maintaining a collection development policy; selecting and acquiring all library materials; (2) Budget administration, including preparing and recommending library's annual budget and capital equipment requests; (3) Staff management, including identifying staffing needs; setting policy appropriate for high quality library service; recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, directing and evaluating staff; (4) Statistics reporting and analysis, including evaluating library services and collections; (5) Curation of the artists' books collection and oversight of special collections; (6) Planning and management of the library's facilities to maximize operations, services, safety and security; and (7) Faculty and student reference assistance, library orientations, and instruction.

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Master of Library Science Degree from an ALA-accredited school.

·         Academic degree in art history or studio art, or equivalent art library experience.

·         Documented on-the-job experience with an integrated library system, preferably Innovative Interfaces, Inc., Sierra.

·         At least five years of senior administrative responsibility.

·         Knowledge of and experience with the application of digital technology to library services & collections, specifically e-books and e-journals.

·         Working experience with budget management, collection development and library staff management.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Second Master degree in the humanities, preferably art history.

·         Experience with collection development or curating an artists' book collection.

·         Experience working within a consortium environment.
