Dear Colleagues,
We were sad to learn that Caroline Backlund, whose career in Washington included positions in the libraries of Dumbarton Oaks (1968-1972) and at the National Gallery of Art
(1972-1996), passed away on Saturday, February 20 at age 95.
As an ardent member of ARLIS/NA, she played an active role in the society as a founding member and chair of the local chapter, as ARLIS/NA President in 1982, and as chair
of the 15th Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. in 1987. In 1989 she received the society’s Distinguished Service Award.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Christ Church in Georgetown, 3116 O St NW, Washington, DC 20007.
